Profile http://www.time.com.my Timecel (017) or formerly known as Adam, is operated by TIME Engineering Bhd (TEB). Adam was first launched in 8, August 1995, becoming among the last few players to enter the telecommunication market. But this never stopped it from growing. The name Adam was changed to Timecel in 17, August, 2000 in an intensive move of rebranding and promote its services to the public. It is a GSM 1800 based digital service, which provides higher subscriber density and traffic capacity. Timecel completed its network capacity upgrade in early 1998 and currently supports a subscriber base of more than 588,000. Other than wireless communications, TEB is also involved in the fixed line service which was launched in March 1996. On December 1999, it introduced its ISP service, TimeNet. In fact, in order to boost up the service, Time started a mass promotion throughout the nation with the 40 hours free surfing activity. TEB's paid-up capital is RM746.4 million while the shareholders' fund stands at RM355.9 million as at Dec 31, 1998. Among its major share holders are Renong Bhd with 46.77% of the stake, and Time Investment (Cayman) Ltd with 15.01% stake. In order to gain competitive advantage, Timecel introduced the wireless internet services using Wireless Application Protocol technology in June 2000. With General Packet Radio System (GPRS) technology that provides high speed wireless data services, Timecel will become a major threat in the local telecommunication market. |
